Negra-Blanca-Negra, Spain: Fiber
Self-Portraits Bailar con Réviejo. These images highlight esparto y réviejo, a soil-to-soil, Fibershed circular economy rooted in bioregional ancestral wisdom and tradition (meaning transmission—i.e., sustainability education). Esparto y réviejo have been used in multiple means of production by Jews and Muslims since the eighth century in Spain—clearly sustainable. In 2019, The Declaration of the Culture of Esparto grass was a Representative Manifestation of Intangible Cultural Heritage—my Spanish, North African cultural heritage. Images of me carrying bundles of réviejo, (meaning new old). Réviejo (no internet links—only oral tradition): the unused portion of wild esparto grass,“the forgotten fiber” (meaning rope or tenacissima, identified so due to its astonishing Fibershed versatility).
