Also shot in Salinas, I dance with how iron in the ancient soil reacts with shifting waters and oxygen to create an exquisite “waste-product.” Rust embodies contradiction—igniting both corrosion and protection. While it erodes its “host,” creating dissonant vibrant colors and lacerating edges, rust functions like a scab on human flesh, protecting the living surface beneath. Just as salt as a catalyst accelerates the rusting process, my precarious form warns of imminent and unpredictable transformation. These geological and corporeal storytellings offer turbulent discord as an assurance for regeneration. Life continues to compost life.
