During my visiting scholar artist residency with the Institute for Creative Art & Technology, I project my photographs on the Cube: an audio/visual immersive performance/installation space. I dance upon these projected images draped in found garments from Y-TOSS, Virginia Tech’s student-led sustainability initiative that has diverted hundreds of tons of items from landfill. I dance in a Butoh style that is about shedding socio-political skins, another form of garment, of textile. Dancing with objects-as-storytellers becomes a mirror which potentially thaws fear and separation, the unveiling of both our vital and toxic interdependencies.
